The race for the Funyula parliamentary seat has taken an unexpected turn following the growing popularity of aspirant Chris Mandu, whose humanitarian initiatives are drawing widespread support from residents across the constituency.

Mandu, a newcomer to elective politics, has made a name for himself by stepping into the lives of ordinary citizens in ways that many say set him apart from the traditional political class.

For years, he has been quietly but steadily supporting disadvantaged families by paying school fees for needy students, footing medical bills for those who could not afford treatment, and empowering local groups with resources to start small-scale enterprises.

In villages and trading centers, his name is increasingly being associated with hope and compassion.

Parents struggling to keep their children in school speak of his timely interventions, while families overwhelmed by hospital expenses recall how he stepped in when they had almost given up.

Youth and women’s groups have also benefited from his programs aimed at promoting self-reliance and economic empowerment.

Residents say Mandu’s generosity has touched lives in tangible ways. “We have seen leaders who only appear during campaign season, but Chris Mandu has been with us long before politics came into the picture,” said a political observer .

“When you find someone paying fees for children he doesn’t even know personally, you realize this is a leader who cares about people.”

Local opinion leaders echo the sentiment, noting that his initiatives directly address the pressing challenges facing Funyula.

Access to quality education, rising healthcare costs and unemployment remain among the top concerns for many households and Mandu’s interventions are seen as providing both immediate relief and long-term solutions.

Political observers argue that his approach may redefine the constituency’s politics, which has often been dominated by party loyalty and rhetoric rather than action. “Mandu’s strategy of touching lives at the grassroots is changing the conversation in Funyula,” said a political analyst based in Busia. “He is showing that leadership is about service, and residents are responding positively.”

As the election season approaches, Mandu’s growing popularity has begun to unsettle his rivals, who now face the challenge of matching his track record of personal sacrifice and community involvement.

For many residents, the question is no longer about promises made during campaign rallies but about what aspirants have done and continue to do for the people.

If the current momentum is anything to go by, Chris Mandu may prove to be a formidable contender in the Funyula parliamentary race, riding on a wave of goodwill created by his humanitarian efforts.

Whether this goodwill will translate into votes remains to be seen, but for now, Mandu has clearly shifted the dynamics of the contest.
