Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi intends to sue political activist Morara Kebaso if he does not issue a public apology for comments made about a photo of the lawmaker with Kasmuel McOure.
Sudi, through his lawyers, has demanded that Kebaso retract and apologize for remarks posted on December 22 on the X platform, where Kebaso criticized McOure for appearing with the MP.
Kebaso’s statement suggested McOure should have prioritized starting a business and seeking public support instead of associating with members of the Kenya Kwanza regime.
“Oh my God, Kasmuel, why? Is it money? You should have started any business, and we would have supported you. Kasmuel McOure, you have hurt Kenyans who believed in you in a way you will never imagine,” Kebaso wrote in part.
Kebaso further accused McOure of engaging with individuals he claimed were responsible for deaths during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.
Sudi Demands Apology:
In a demand letter sent to Kebaso, Sudi’s lawyers described the remarks as defamatory, arguing they portrayed the MP as a murderer and profiteer who exploited tragedies for personal gain.
“By referring to ‘these same people’ and juxtaposing Hon. Sudi’s image alongside the phrase ‘killed Gen Z in cold blood and benefitted from it,’ you expressly or by innuendo portrayed our client as a murderer, a profiteer, a dishonest leader, and a corrupt associate,” the letter read.
The lawyers further stated Kebaso’s comments were reckless and irresponsible, considering his significant audience of over 284,000 followers on X.
“The harm caused to our client’s reputation cannot be overstated,” they said.
Legal Consequences Loom:
Sudi’s lawyers have demanded a written, unconditional apology from Kebaso, as well as an acknowledgment of liability.
They also warned Kebaso against publishing any further defamatory comments or images of the MP.
“Take notice that unless we hear from you on the above within three days of receipt of this letter, we have mandatory instructions to institute relevant legal proceedings against you,” the lawyers warned.
Kebaso had not publicly responded to the demand letter by the time of publication.
Ends.
