The Junior Starlets showcased a dominant performance, defeating Valencia CF Women 4-1 in a friendly match at the Ciudad Deportiva del València CF. This victory serves as a boost for the team, led by head coach Mildred Cheche, as they prepare for their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup debut.
Valerie Nekesa opened the scoring in the 9th minute and secured her brace in the 26th. Lindey Atieno added a third goal before halftime, and she completed her double early in the second half. Valencia scored a consolation penalty in the 88th minute.
Nekesa expressed gratitude for support in resolving her travel issues and pledged to continue improving. Coach Cheche praised the team’s performance and emphasized the importance of building mental strength ahead of tougher matches.
The Junior Starlets are set to face Portugal on September 27 and will conclude their preparations against Intercity on September 30. They aim for a strong showing in the World Cup, starting October 16, where they will compete against England, Korea DPR, and Mexico in Pool C.
