Save the children and FAWE train children assembly on leadership skills in Bungoma

Bungoma 28-05-24 By Timothy Wekesa.
Stakeholders and other actors in Education sector have been called upon to promote friendly environment for children in schools.
Speaking during a children assembly held at Nalondo CBM in Bungoma, John Mukenya , a children rights advocate said it is high time for the department of education both at National and County level to embrace child involvement in formulation of policy to support welfare of children.
“The children have spoken what they go through with the issue of teacher shortage and insufficient infrastructure coming out clearly, this was only possible through involvement,” he said.
Mukenya has called upon the government to move with speed and address the gaps in the learning space, citing that disparities are creating a lot of inequality among the children.
“It has come out that in some schools, the children have not learnt some subjects for the entire term, this is a disadvantage to them,” he said.
It was noted that the competence based curriculum can provide equality among talented and Academic oriented learners but a huge gap exists in the number of teachers and instructors in the technical subjects.
The children were sensitized on their rights and responsibilities to Forster good leadership skills for posterity.
Also present during the conference were Bungoma County CECM for Education and Vocational Training David Wamamili, County Director of Education Pius Ng’oma and and a host of policy makers.
Wamamili affirmed the commitment of his department to stir technological infrastructure through installation of ICT equipment in the county.
“We are leveraging on our existing Vocational centers to set up enough computer laboratories which will supplement technology learning and innovation for all learners,” he said.
However, he noted that the challenge lies on funding since his department is confined to ECDE and Vocational Training but has been suffocated by scholarships.
Education Director Pius Ng’oma on his side insisted on discipline among the children.
The Child assembly was organized by Save the children in collaboration with FAWE Kenya and brought together stakeholders from different Education departments who in one accord resolved to give children issues a high prominence.
