East African Legislative Assembly MP Winnie Odinga is set to unveil an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) pressure group at Kamukunji Grounds in Kibra this afternoon.
The event comes as Odinga continues to expand her political footprint in Nairobi’s informal settlements, positioning the new outfit as a youth-driven platform aimed at strengthening ODM’s grassroots mobilization ahead of future elections.
Odinga began her day attending a church service in Makina, accompanied by Raila Odinga Junior and Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto.
Supporters gathered early at the grounds, where ODM-branded banners and youth leaders were already setting the stage for the anticipated launch.
The pressure group is expected to rally young people in Kibra and neighboring constituencies around governance, accountability and party loyalty, reinforcing ODM’s influence in one of its traditional strongholds.
Party insiders say the initiative reflects a broader strategy by ODM leadership to counter growing competition from emerging political movements seeking to penetrate Nairobi’s urban voting blocs.
Odinga, the daughter of veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, has increasingly taken on a visible role in ODM’s outreach campaigns, particularly among the youth and women.
Today’s launch is seen as part of that effort to re-energize the party’s base.
Security has been heightened at Kamukunji Grounds ahead of the event, with ODM officials urging supporters to turn out in large numbers for what they describe as a defining moment for the party’s next generation of leadership.
