Veteran gospel musician Faustin Munishi has delivered what he calls “elderly wisdom,” and what the internet is calling “a full Sunday service with receipts.”

In a statement that has sent Christian Twitter into a revival and Facebook into a frenzy, Munishi urged Tanzanian gospel star Rose Muhando to return the KES 500,000 dowry allegedly paid to her family by Bishop Robert Lumbasi in 2023 — and, in the spirit of forgiveness, “set the bishop free.”

Munishi said Muhando never denied having a relationship with the bishop, only the marriage, “meaning there was something secret between them.”

He added that if she is not ready to proceed with the holy union, she should “refund the bride price and release the servant of God back to the vineyard.”

The reaction online was swift and sanctified.

“Dowry is not a seed offering you sow and forget,” wrote one follower on X. “Return it and let the bishop find a Proverbs 31 woman who comes without a refund policy.”

A Nairobi pastor posted on Facebook: “If it’s true, this is the first time I’ve seen a man tithe for a wedding and still remain single.”

Others were more sympathetic. “Marriage is not a revival crusade you cancel at the last minute,” one church elder wrote. “But love is patient, and so is M-Pesa.”

Munishi also cautioned Bishop Lumbasi against marrying a “toughened single mother,” warning that such unions require “a strong anointing and stronger patience.”

He advised Muhando to be ready to “submit even her ministry to her husband,” asking, “Is she ready for that?”

As of Sunday, neither Muhando nor Lumbasi had publicly responded, leaving believers praying, critics tweeting and accountants — perhaps — waiting for the refund.
