ODM should not miss a seat at the political table…

Coalitions Key to Political Stability, Says Lusaka

By IP Reporter

KAKAMEGA, Kenya

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has renewed calls for strong pre-election coalitions, describing them as vital for inclusive governance and long-term political stability.

Speaking during an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) delegates’ meeting in Kakamega, Lusaka praised the party for initiating dialogue with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) within the framework of the broad-based government and ahead of the next general election.

“Even the father of this party, Raila Odinga, always believed in and championed coalitions. You are therefore on the right track and living in his true spirit,” Lusaka said.

He urged ODM party leader Oburu Odinga to ignore internal critics opposed to the talks, arguing that coalition-building has historically strengthened democracy and promoted national cohesion.

“ODM is a major stakeholder in this country’s political landscape and should never miss a seat at the political table,” Lusaka added. “The party has fought hard for democracy in Kenya, and the time has come for it to join hands with others to form government and deliver for the people.”

Lusaka said politics grounded in cooperation rather than confrontation offers Kenya a pathway to stability, development and effective service delivery. He noted that pre-election negotiations can help prevent post-election tensions.

He further revealed that governors from the Western region have agreed to work together politically with a shared goal of ensuring President William Ruto’s re-election.

According to Lusaka, a united Western political bloc would strengthen the region’s bargaining power nationally and accelerate development for its people.

“Collaboration and unity are the surest routes to progress,” he said.

His remarks come amid growing political realignments as parties position themselves ahead of the next general election.
