As Elgon North heads toward the 2026 general elections, a phone survey of 3,000 residents conducted by Intellectuals Post, a registered Kenyan media consultancy, indicates that Engineer Irene Nafuna Muloni is viewed more favorably than the incumbent MP Gerald Nangoli, particularly on issues of development, stability, progression, security, and experience.

Youth Perspective:
Among the 1,200 respondents aged 18–35, 55% said Muloni’s experience and national connections make her better positioned to deliver jobs, infrastructure, and skills programs, compared with 28% for Nangoli.

Muloni’s focus on projects like the Simu Kona–Masila–Bufumbo road and the Muyembe–Mbigi hydropower initiative resonated strongly with younger voters seeking employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Women’s View:
Of the 1,000 female respondents, 52% favored Muloni for her record on healthcare, education, and women’s enterprise support, versus 30% for Nangoli.

Many women highlighted her involvement in rural electrification and smallholder empowerment as a clear advantage.

Men’s Assessment:
Among 800 male respondents, 48% said Muloni’s experience and political networks give her an edge in securing resources for Elgon North, while 35% said Nangoli is disadvantaged due to weaker ties to national leadership and perceived supporter unrest.

Security and Stability:
Across all groups, 50% of respondents felt Muloni would ensure safer, more peaceful elections and governance, compared with 25% who said the same for Nangoli.

Voters cited allegations of intimidation and sporadic violence associated with Nangoli’s supporters as a concern, while Muloni’s emphasis on credible, peaceful leadership was viewed positively.

Overall Perception:
The survey suggests that Muloni’s experience, focus on development, and commitment to stability give her a noticeable advantage over the incumbent.

Nangoli, while currently holding the seat, faces challenges in perception due to alleged hooliganism, less national influence, and weaker development credentials, according to respondents.

As voters prepare for the polls, the survey indicates that delivery and credible leadership are taking priority over local political theatrics, potentially shaping the outcome in Muloni’s favor.
