The Odinga family is mourning the death of Beryl Achieng Odinga, the youngest sister of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away Tuesday while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
Beryl was remembered by her family as a loving mother to her children, Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai and a strong pillar within the Odinga household.
Her sister, Ruth Odinga, described her passing as a “sudden loss” but said the family takes comfort in believing she is “safe in the Lord’s arms.”
Born to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mary Ajuma Oginga, Beryl was part of one of Kenya’s most politically influential families.
She largely remained out of the public eye, focusing on her work as a teacher and lawyer.
She also made history as the first Black town clerk of Mutare, Zimbabwe and later held leadership roles in public institutions, including serving on the board of the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company.
Her death comes just over a month after the passing of her brother Raila Odinga on October 15, 2025.
Friends, family and political figures have expressed condolences, highlighting her contributions to her family and community.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
