Bungoma Senator David Wakoli has called on the county government to prioritize timely payment of staff salaries, warning that persistent delays are pushing workers and their families into unnecessary hardship.
“Our workers have financial responsibilities and families to support, and salary delays only cause them unnecessary suffering,” Wakoli said in a statement on Sunday.
The senator also urged the county administration to empower local contractors, arguing they better understand the needs of the community and should be given priority in development projects.
“This is the true essence of devolution — development by the people, for the people,” he said.
Wakoli’s remarks come amid rising concern from unions and civil society groups over late salary disbursements in Bungoma and other counties.
