Retired Teacher Urges Government to Invest in Special Needs Education.

KIMILILI, Kenya.

— The government has been urged to invest more in special needs education to better support children living with disabilities and prepare them for productive futures.

Speaking during his retirement ceremony, former headteacher of Nasioya S.A. Primary School, Gerry Nyongesa, called on education stakeholders to prioritize the needs of children with disabilities, noting that they, too, have the potential to achieve their dreams.

“These children deserve equal opportunities to learn and thrive. It’s our duty to create an environment that nurtures their abilities,” Nyongesa said.

His remarks were echoed by members of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), led by union official John Kikechi. Kikechi also used the occasion to call on the government to create more employment opportunities for the youth, saying joblessness is driving many young people into hopelessness and unrest.

“If we want to see peace in our country, we must offer our youth hope through jobs and empowerment programs,” Kikechi said.
