WEBUYE, Kenya (IP)
Transport activities were temporarily disrupted Monday at Kuywa market in Webuye West constituency after residents and boda boda riders staged a peaceful protest over the deteriorating state of the Milo-Kuywa road.
The demonstrators complained that the road has become impassable, severely affecting their daily lives and access to essential services, including medical care.
Led by boda boda chairman Enock Wafula, the protesters accused their elected leaders of neglecting the area.
Wafula urged the area MP and other local officials to prioritize road repairs, saying the community has suffered in silence for too long.
“Our people are unable to get to hospitals in time. The road is a lifeline for many, yet it has been ignored,” Wafula said.
His concerns were echoed by fellow riders Moses Wanyonyi and Peter Wamukota, who described the road as a constant barrier to their work and economic well-being.
The residents issued a three-day ultimatum to the MP to initiate repairs, warning that they would completely block the road if no action is taken.
“We are giving our MP three days. If we see no action, we’ll shut it down,” Wanyonyi said, as the crowd cheered in agreement.
The protest ended peacefully, but tension remains high as residents await a response from their leaders.
