Casual workers in Bungoma County Department of health have been called upon to remain patients as the county consolidates settlement of their accrued payments.

Speaking to journalists at the county headquarters, Bungoma Health CECM Caroline Makali said there has been a lapse in transition of the workers to the county payroll since they were contracted through varied ways.

“The public service board is the only body that is mandated to provide us data on their employment and we are processing their payroll,” She said.

She has reiterated that the contribution of their work on service delivery is commendable, citing that the department feels their pain and they will soon get their dues.

Makali was speaking after a consultative meeting with casual employees in the ministry who have gone for months without payment.

This resulted to their endless strikes and demonstrations, paralyzing normal operations in various medical facilities.

The workers have asked the department to expedite settlement of their dues citing that they are going through harsh economic times despite serving the department.

Also present during the meeting were Health Chief officer Magrima Mayama, Health Director Caleb Watta and Governor’s Protocol officer Eric Nyoti.
