Sammy Kamau Ngotho has won the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) parliamentary primaries for Olkalou Constituency after garnering 12,957 votes in a closely followed exercise that attracted thousands of voters across the constituency.
The nomination exercise, conducted under tight security and heavy voter turnout, was hailed by party officials as one of the most organized and transparent party primaries in recent years.
Speaking after being declared the winner, Kamau Ngotho said the contest had demonstrated the party’s commitment to democracy and the will of the people.
“This contest has demonstrated to the people of Kenya that our party is a free and democratic space for all and it is the voice of the Kenyan people that we listen to,” he said.
He noted that the DCP Party remains committed to open democratic processes where party members freely elect leaders of their choice.
Kamau Ngotho thanked the people of Olkalou for turning out in large numbers during the nominations and maintaining peace throughout the exercise.
“I most sincerely thank the great people of Olkalou for coming out in large numbers to vote for the candidate of their choice,” he said.
The politician also extended an olive branch to his competitors, urging them to unite behind the party ahead of the upcoming campaigns.
“For those who did not make it, you are our true heroes for participating in the contest and agreeing to support the winner. Your place in the party is secure,” he added.
At the same time, the DCP candidate commended the party’s National Elections Board for overseeing what he termed a credible and transparent nomination process.
He praised returning officers, presiding officers, polling clerks and party officials for ensuring smooth operations during the voting and tallying process.
Kamau Ngotho further lauded the National Police Service in Nyandarua County for providing security during the primaries.
“The police lived up to their motto of Utumishi Kwa Wote by ensuring there was law and order throughout the constituency,” he said.
The Olkalou parliamentary race is expected to attract significant political attention as parties begin early preparations for the next General Election. Analysts say Kamau Ngotho’s victory now places him at the centre of the constituency’s political landscape ahead of the national polls.
