MOSCOW
Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, arrived in Moscow on Sunday for high-level talks aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Kenya and Russia.
Mudavadi’s two-day visit will focus on expanding cooperation in education, labour mobility, health, infrastructure and energy, according to Kenya’s foreign affairs ministry.
The talks come as both countries seek to deepen economic engagement and diversify trade partnerships amid shifting global trade dynamics.
Mudavadi is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and meet Russian officials responsible for education and labour.
He will also deliver a public lecture at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).
Kenya has welcomed Russia’s continued support in higher education scholarships and agricultural cooperation, particularly fertiliser supply aimed at boosting farm productivity.
The Kenyan government also sees potential to expand exports of coffee, tea and cut flowers to the Russian market as global trade routes face disruptions linked to conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
A key issue during the visit will be the welfare of Kenyan nationals living and studying in Russia.
Mudavadi is expected to push for a clear framework to protect Kenyans abroad and address concerns over citizens who may have been recruited into the Russian military during the ongoing Russia–Ukraine War.
Kenya is also seeking structured repatriation arrangements for affected nationals, officials said.
