BUNGOMA, Kenya
Senator CBS David Wakoli has asked the Senate to compel a detailed explanation on the medical insurance scheme covering employees of the Bungoma County Government Executive.
Speaking in the Senate , Wakoli requested a statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding the status, structure and management of the health cover for county staff.
The senator said transparency is necessary to ensure public servants receive the medical protection promised to them.
“The committee should disclose the name of the current underwriter and provide details of any insurance brokerage firm involved in facilitating or managing the scheme,” Wakoli said.
He noted that clear information on the scheme’s administration will help determine whether employees are receiving the benefits they are entitled to under the policy.
Wakoli also asked the committee to outline the scope of benefits offered under the medical cover.
These include in-patient and out-patient services, maternity care, dental and optical services, chronic illness coverage and last expense benefits.
In addition, he sought details on the policy limits per family and per individual beneficiary to establish whether the coverage is adequate for county workers and their dependents.
The Bungoma senator further requested a financial breakdown of the scheme, including the total annual premium, the amount payable per employee where applicable and the sources of funding supporting the policy.
He also asked the committee to provide a verified list of hospitals, clinics and pharmacies approved under the scheme to ensure employees across the county can access the services without difficulty.
The request places renewed focus on accountability in the management of employee welfare programs within county governments.
