Kasarani constituency parliamentary aspirant Benard Waliuba has called on the government to urgently prioritize the safety and welfare of Kenyans, saying every citizen must be accounted for regardless of their social or economic status.
Speaking in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County, Waliuba — popularly known as Mabonga “Mtu Kazi” — appealed directly to William Ruto and the national leadership to ensure systems are in place to protect vulnerable citizens.
“There should be no Kenyans sleeping on the streets or under footbridges without being accounted for in this era,” Waliuba said.
He proposed structured interventions for different groups, arguing that mentally ill individuals should be taken to institutions such as Mathare Mental Hospital where they can receive treatment, food and care while being properly documented.
Those who are sick, he said, should be admitted to hospitals, while individuals involved in crime should face the justice system so that they are equally accounted for.
Waliuba also urged the government to create pathways for homeless people willing to work to access employment opportunities, and to guide those interested in education through proper schooling channels.
The Kasarani parliamentary aspirant expressed concern over recent loss of lives and property across the country, blaming what he described as weak commitment by authorities to improve infrastructure and social protection systems.
He warned that if the situation does not improve, he will petition the National Disaster Operations Centre over alleged incompetence.
Waliuba said he is also planning awareness campaigns through music, sports and road shows to mobilize resources and encourage families to help account for their relatives.
