Ali Gholampour, the ambassador of Iran to Kenya, said Monday that Tehran’s missile systems cannot strike Kenyan territory, seeking to calm concerns following escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking in Nairobi, Gholampour said Iran’s missile capability has been “deliberately limited” to a maximum range of approximately 2,000 kilometers, describing the program as defensive in nature.

He said the distance between Iran and Kenya exceeds that limit, placing the East African nation outside the operational reach of Tehran’s current missile systems.

The envoy’s remarks come as anxiety has grown globally over the possibility of broader regional conflict.

Diplomats in Nairobi said the statement was intended to reassure both Kenyan authorities and the public that the country is not within range of any Iranian military hardware.

Iran has long maintained that its ballistic missile program is designed for deterrence within its region, not for intercontinental projection of force.

Kenyan officials have not indicated any immediate security threat linked to the unfolding tensions abroad.
