Superstar boarding primary school on Thursday held a colorful graduation ceremony for its top class learners transitioning to Primary One, an event the school says is designed to “psychologically prepare children for the next academic journey.”
School administrators said the entertainment activities, songs and performances were not “mere fun,” but intentionally crafted to help young learners reset their minds as they advance to a new level of study.
The school’s director Halima Wakhanya used the ceremony to caution parents to take “extra care” of their children during the holiday season, especially as Uganda enters a politically charged period ahead of the general election scheduled for early next year.
“Parents must protect their children from the confusion that comes with campaign season,” he said, warning that young learners are often exposed to risky environments during political rallies.
Superstar Academy, located in Bulambuli District, has built a strong reputation for academic excellence, particularly in science-based subjects.
The institution is known for instilling discipline, integrity and leadership skills, and for producing students who continue to excel in high school, universities and professional institutions.
One parent testified that his previously indisciplined child was transformed by the school and now serves in the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).
Another parent — a pastor — said former students from the academy who applied for roles at the Electoral Commission displayed outstanding academic records at tertiary institutions, calling it “an admirable pattern of excellence.”
A number of standout alumni were highlighted, including Okisimu Nathan, a Senior Six candidate at Nabumali High School taking a strong science–arts technical combination.
The chief guest and director of the school Jawali Wakhanya said another former pupil at Mother Kevin School in Kampala was recently recognized as the top mathematician in Kampala metropolitan and is currently on a full scholarship.
Local leader Simon Katami, speaker of Bwikholi Sub–County, praised the academy’s discipline record, spiritual guidance and academic consistency.
Katami, who has nine children currently enrolled and previously had 15 at the school, said two of his older children are now thriving — one serving in the military after graduating from Metropolitan and another pursuing undergraduate studies at Kenyatta University in Kenya.
The school is also a foundation-level partner of Mbarara University in supporting Uganda’s national STEM initiative championed by President Yoweri Museveni.
Issuing certificates to top performers, the Mr Wakhanya urged parents not to let financial challenges limit their children’s dreams.
“We are not going to increase school fees. We want more children to enroll so they can be fruitful in the near future,” he said. “Pay school fees now so you don’t incur greater costs in the future. Education and values are the surest investment.”said Wakhanya
He concluded by wishing the families a prosperous Christmas and New Year, and encouraged parents in neighboring Kenya to continue entrusting their children to Superstar Academy for “a firm academic and moral foundation.”
