Henry Wasya Awori, brother of former Kenyan Vice President Moody Arthur Awori, has died.
He passed away on October 24, 2025, while receiving medical treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.
Henry Wasya Awori was the son of the late Canon Jeremiah Musungu Awori and the late Mariam Odongo Awori of Samia, Busia County.
He was among 18 siblings in one of Kenya’s most distinguished families, known for producing leaders in politics, business, education and the church.
Among his surviving siblings are Grace Wakhungu,the mother of Prof Judy Wakhungu a former cabinet minister in Uhuru Kenyatta government,Dr. Mary Okelo of Makini school and Moody Awori,the former vice President.
Other siblings who have since passed on include former Ugandan Minister Aggrey Awori, Prof. Nelson Awori, Eng. Ernest Awori and the late MP W.W.W. Awori.
Henry Awori made his mark as Kenya’s first Commissioner of Insurance before serving as General Manager at the Kenya National Assurance Company.
His leadership and professionalism were widely recognized in Kenya’s insurance and financial sectors.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Montezuma Funeral Home Chapel, off Raila Odinga Way in Nairobi.
Burial will follow on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the family home in Gulumwoyo Village, Funyula, Samia Busia County.
He is survived by his children Nicholas, Emmanuel, Christian, Bobby and Palmer, and by seven grandchildren based in the United States.
The family described him as a devoted father, a man of faith and a pillar of integrity.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God,” they said in their message of thanks.
