BULAMBULI, Uganda

Sarah Nambozo Wekomba, the newly nominated National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearer for Bulambuli District Woman Member of Parliament, has launched her campaign with a clear message — “tools, not handouts.”

At her nomination celebration, Nambozo called on residents to embrace self-reliance and productivity as the foundation of development.

We must move from dependency to productivity. The future of Bulambuli depends on our willingness to work, innovate, and empower ourselves,” she said, addressing cheering supporters.

Her Background

Nambozo, a social worker and entrepreneur, previously served as the Woman Member of Parliament for Bulambuli, where she championed education, women’s savings groups and youth enterprise projects.

Known for her approachable style and grassroots mobilization, she built a reputation as a results-driven leader committed to inclusive development.

Her return to the political stage under the NRM banner signals renewed energy within the party’s ranks in the Bugisu sub-region.

Nambozo says she is determined to revive community programs that directly improve livelihoods rather than rely on short-term relief.

Her Agenda

In her campaign outline, Nambozo highlighted four main pillars:

Economic Empowerment: Strengthening women and youth cooperatives through access to tools, training and micro-financing to boost small-scale enterprises.

Job Creation: Encouraging young people to embrace innovation and self-employment through agribusiness and technology.

Improved Infrastructure and Services: Prioritizing roads, schools, and healthcare centers that have long suffered neglect.

NRM Unity and Grassroots Mobilization: Reaffirming loyalty to President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM structures to ensure better service delivery across the district.

Voices from Bulambuli

Eunice Nambuye, a women’s leader from Muyembe, said Nambozo’s message has struck a chord with many women who have long relied on temporary aid.

Sarah is reminding us that what we need are the means to work, not the handouts that keep us waiting. She believes in women’s capacity to build businesses and feed their families — that’s what leadership should look like,” Nambuye said.

Johnstone Wamukota, a youth leader in Muyembe praised her inclusive approach.

“She listens and involves everyone — from the boda riders to the small-scale farmers. Her focus on tools and training gives young people a reason to dream again,” Wamukota noted.

Media commentator Joseph Mauso of The Eastern Eye lauded Nambozo’s vision, describing her as “a bridge between old politics and modern leadership.”

Nambozo’s campaign is not about handouts or slogans — it’s about transformation. Her emphasis on empowerment through real, tangible tools is what Uganda’s rural politics has been missing,” Mauso said.

The Bigger Picture

Her nomination has re-energized NRM supporters in Bulambuli, with many viewing her as a unifying and pragmatic figure capable of bridging the gap between government programs and local needs.

For many residents, her “tools, not handouts” message resonates deeply in a district struggling with unemployment, limited resources and frequent landslides.

Nambozo’s focus on practical empowerment — equipping communities with resources to create lasting change — places her among the new wave of NRM candidates redefining political engagement ahead of the 2026 elections.
