Ruto Declares War on Violent Protesters: “You Are Terrorists”.

NAIROBI, Kenya — July 9, 2025.

President William Ruto on Tuesday unleashed his most aggressive rhetoric yet against those behind recent violent protests, declaring them “terrorists” and warning that any further attacks on police officers, businesses, or public infrastructure would be treated as acts of war.

Speaking at Kilimani Police Station in Dagoretti North, where he inspected progress on a 540-unit police housing project, the head of state issued a chilling message to those he accused of destabilizing the country for political gain.

“Those who attack Kenyans, police officers, security installations and businesses are terrorists. Such criminal acts are a declaration of war,” said Ruto.

“We will not allow our country to be destroyed by retrogressive elements that are seeking shortcuts to rise to power. Enough is enough!”

The president affirmed that the government will not sit back as institutions are burned and officers targeted.

He pledged to deploy all available resources to defend national stability.

A Hardening Stance.

The president’s tone reflects a sharp pivot by the administration — from dialogue to direct confrontation.

Government operatives now view the unrest not as organic civil resistance but as a coordinated campaign to provoke anarchy and delegitimize state authority.

The symbolic setting of the Kilimani Police Station — a center of law enforcement in the capital — reinforced the president’s alignment with security agencies.

The new housing units are part of a broader strategy to improve the welfare and readiness of police officers nationwide.

A Nation Braced.

While Ruto’s message was meant to assure the public, it also laid the groundwork for a potentially harsher crackdown on opposition-aligned protests.

His framing of the unrest as terrorism raises the stakes — and sets the tone for the next phase of state response.

“This is a battle for Kenya’s future. Order must win over chaos.”

The coming days are likely to test how far the state is willing to go — and how far its critics are willing to push.

Ends.
