Socialite Bridget Achieng has revealed that she is unable to return to Kenya due to fears of being arrested. In a recent TikTok live session, she shared that her passport has been blocked, leaving her stranded in Turkey. Achieng stated, “I cannot enter Kenya because my passport is blocked. I am stuck in Turkey. If I enter Kenya, I will be arrested. It’s not like I can’t go to Dubai or anywhere else. But I say, why waste time instead of making sure that I pursue this case, pick up my son, and go to a better country?”
Achieng, who gained fame through the reality show Nairobi Diaries, has been at the center of accusations of human trafficking. She is alleged to have lured several Kenyan women to the Middle East with promises of jobs, only for them to end up being trafficked into the sex trade. These allegations are still under investigation, and Achieng has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
In 2018, the BBC issued an apology to Achieng after featuring her in a controversial prostitution documentary. She claimed that the BBC had edited her interview in a misleading way, cutting out parts where she denied being involved in prostitution. However, in the documentary, Achieng confessed to having been a prostitute in the past, explaining that she had resorted to it out of financial desperation and naivety.
“I had to do it just to get back on my feet, it’s not something any woman should be proud of,” she said in the interview. “I tried (the trade), I wouldn’t say I didn’t try, you’re a desperate girl looking for money and this guy offers you like $10,000 (about Sh1 million) just to go and see him. 10 thousand dollars! Some people have never seen 10 thousand dollars in their life. You just have to look pretty, get $10,000, and get on the plane and do what you have to do.”
