Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has responded with humor and defiance to claims that her household items are at risk of being auctioned over alleged rent arrears amounting to Ksh 1.25 million.
In a cheeky post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, November 18, Nyamu addressed the situation while teasing her followers with a promise to share her side of the story.
“Do you know why I’m laughing? There’s a colleague who asked me with concern whether I’m into casino gambling, wondering where my money is going. Be patient, I’ll share [my part of the] story,” she wrote.
Nyamu dismissed the auction claims as unjust and revealed plans to challenge the matter in court.
The auction controversy stems from a court order issued on November 13, 2024, by Milimani Senior Magistrate A.H. Nyoike.
The order authorized Fantasy Auctioneers, with the assistance of Runda Police Station, to recover unpaid rent for a property in Runda, Nairobi.
“The officer commanding Runda Police Station or any other officer under his command to give assistance for the purpose of maintaining law and order,” the court order stated.
Despite these developments, Nyamu has stood her ground, asserting her intention to seek legal redress.
Nyamu’s Political Journey
Karen Nyamu’s political career began in 2013 when she was elected as a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Nairobi under The National Alliance (TNA) ticket.
During her tenure, she chaired the Nairobi County Assembly’s Committee on Education and Social Services.
In 2017, she contested the Woman Representative seat for Nairobi County on a Jubilee Party ticket.
Later, in January 2020, she was appointed by then-Governor Mike Sonko to oversee the Agriculture docket in Nairobi’s county government.
Currently, Nyamu serves as a nominated senator under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, playing a significant role in national politics.
