Bungoma County government recently received a substantial Sh37.4 million worth of medical supplies from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), aimed at boosting healthcare services within the county.
The consignment received by the County’s Health and Sanitation CECM, Hon. Carolyne Makali, included a range of essential health products valued at Sh37,399,055, and will be distributed across 160 health facilities, focusing on Level 2 and Level 3 facilities.
The supplies comprise pharmaceuticals worth Sh14,300,647, laboratory items valued at Sh6,530,800, and non-pharmaceuticals totaling Sh16,567,608.
Key items included antibiotics, analgesics, antimalarial drugs, and Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) commodities, which are expected to enhance healthcare quality, particularly in rural areas where such resources are critical.
In her remarks, CECM Makali underscored the importance of judicious use of these resources and reaffirmed the county’s commitment to sustaining adequate stock levels through ongoing funding efforts.
“This consignment is a significant boost for our healthcare system. We urge all facilities to use these commodities rationally as we continue lobbying for more funds to ensure an adequate and consistent supply of essential health products,” she stated.
The handover exercise was attended by various county health officials, including Dr. Dinah Nyasoro, County HPTU Coordinator; Dr. Joram Olubanga, representing the County pharmacist; and Mrs. Joan Wasike, County Laboratory Coordinator.
This initiative further emphasizes the Bungoma County governments dedication to advancing healthcare for its residents.
