President Ruto Orders Comprehensive Safety Audit in Schools Following Recent Fires
In response to a series of recent school fires, President William Ruto has mandated a thorough audit of safety compliance across educational institutions. This directive aims to ensure that all schools adhere to rigorous safety standards to prevent future tragedies.
The audit will be a collaborative effort, involving the Ministry of Education, the Department of Public Works, the Ministry of Health, and local devolved governments. Each agency will contribute its expertise to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of safety practices within schools.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu highlighted the audit’s importance, stating, “Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students. Any institution found violating safety guidelines will face legal consequences. We are committed to enforcing these regulations strictly to protect our children.”
The audit will cover various safety measures, including fire prevention systems, building maintenance, and emergency response protocols. Schools will be required to meet specific safety criteria, with non-compliant institutions facing penalties.
This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing safety in educational environments and addressing any lapses that could endanger students and staff. By involving multiple government departments and local authorities, the audit aims to establish a comprehensive framework for school safety and promote a culture of accountability and vigilance.
As the audit progresses, the government seeks to set a new standard for school safety, ensuring that every child can learn in a secure and protected environment.
