Article:
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is intensifying its efforts to reclaim six valuable parcels of public land in Kericho Town, with an estimated worth of Sh400 million. The land, which originally belonged to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), was allegedly appropriated by private developers through collusion with land officials.

Ignatius Wekesa, EACC South Rift Regional Manager, disclosed that the land, initially encompassing 2.5 acres, was unlawfully subdivided into six plots and transferred to private developers. “Our investigations have established that the land was government property at the time it was allocated to these individuals. Consequently, all transactions related to this land were fraudulent and illegal,” Wekesa stated.

Following the completion of their investigation, the EACC filed a lawsuit with the Kericho Environment and Land Court to initiate the recovery process. On July 31, the Commission secured a court order prohibiting the current ‘owners’ from any transactions involving the land until the matter is fully adjudicated.

In the recovery suit, the EACC is seeking to have the court nullify all transactions related to the land transfer, cancel any unauthorized entries in the Kericho Land Register, and issue a new title deed in the name of the Government.

Wekesa urged other individuals unlawfully in possession of public land in the region to voluntarily return it to the Government. “The Commission is prepared not only to seek the forfeiture of this land but also to pursue legal action against all individuals involved in these fraudulent dealings,” he emphasized.
