James Situma, president of the Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) and former Nzoia Sugar FC player, has outlined crucial steps for the club as they embark on their National Super League (NSL) campaign. Following their relegation from the FKF Premier League last season, Nzoia Sugar FC faces a pivotal moment in its history.
In a recent address, Situma emphasized the need for stability and long-term planning within the club’s management. He stressed that frequent changes in the coaching staff undermine team cohesion and hinder progress. “Instead of firing coaches after every poor performance, the management should focus on finding a good coach and giving them the time needed to build a strong and stable team,” Situma advised.
Reflecting on his time with Nzoia Sugar FC in the early 2000s, Situma shared his insights on how the club can achieve a successful return to the top flight of Kenyan football. He pointed out that relying solely on young and inexperienced players is not a viable strategy for winning the league. “It’s difficult to win the league by depending on just young players. To truly perform well, Nzoia Sugar FC needs at least a few experienced players who can make a significant contribution and provide leadership on and off the pitch,” Situma explained.
Despite the challenges, Situma remains optimistic about the club’s future. He believes that with a strategic and patient approach, Nzoia Sugar FC can overcome the setbacks of the past season and reclaim its place in the FKF Premier League.
As the team prepares for the NSL season, Situma’s advice serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of stability, experience, and long-term vision in achieving footballing success.
