KUPPET Suspends Nationwide Teachers’ Strike: Teachers Ordered to Return to Work

by Swaleh

After a daylong meeting on Monday, September 2, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has directed teachers to return to work immediately. This decision comes in accordance with a court order scheduled for Thursday, September 5, as both KUPPET and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) seek a swift resolution to their ongoing disputes.

Akello Misori, KUPPET’s Secretary General, emphasized that the suspension of the strike reflects the union’s commitment to complying with legal directives while pursuing a timely settlement of the grievances. “From the union’s side, we suspend the strike and ask all our teachers to go back to class pending the speedy resolution of these matters as agreed upon between us and the commission,” Misori stated.

This move is expected to bring relief to students and parents affected by the recent disruptions in the education sector. As the situation develops, further updates will follow.
