Bradley Marongo, famously known as Nairobi’s tallest man, has recently opened up about his unique journey from Majengo in Vihiga County to the bustling streets of Nairobi, where his extraordinary height has brought him newfound fame.
Standing at an impressive 8 feet 2 inches, Marongo first caught public attention during the Gen Z protests, making headlines as he navigated the streets of Nairobi. In a candid interview with a local TV station on Friday, August 16, 2024, Marongo shared his remarkable story.
“My friend Mose, who works with a bus company operating between Nairobi and the Western region, invited me to Nairobi,” Marongo recalled. “He was an aspiring artist at the time and thought I might enjoy the experience.”
The logistics of traveling with his extraordinary height were challenging. “To fit on the bus, I had to sit on the floor mat along the aisle,” Marongo explained. “I had no other option given the limited space.”
Challenges of Being Exceptionally Tall
Marongo’s towering stature has thrust him into the public eye, attracting interest from content creators and media. Despite the attention, he faces everyday struggles due to his height. One of his biggest challenges is finding clothes that fit. “Shopping for clothes is a struggle,” Marongo admitted. “When I visit the market for second-hand clothes, people often stare, curious about where this tall person came from.”
He further shared that he has never worn a pair of closed shoes, highlighting the difficulty in finding footwear in his size. “I only have two pairs of custom-made sandals that fit me well,” he said. “Finding basketball jerseys that fit is the only way I can get clothes that are comfortable.”
Personal Life and Ambitions
Marongo is married and has two daughters who live with his wife in Vihiga. At 27, he works as a tout in Nairobi and wears a size 48 shoe, which remains elusive in stores.
Despite the challenges, Marongo is focused on leveraging his fame for future success. “My goal is to become well-known and eventually leave my job as a tout,” he said. “I’m aiming to build a career and make a name for myself.”
