Former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu sensationally claimed on Thursday that President William Ruto is secretly orchestrating attacks against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
During an interview, Waititu alleged that Ruto is using certain party leaders to create chaos in the Mt Kenya region.
Waititu emphasized that this strategy aims to prevent any leader from the region from securing full support from the populous voting bloc if they decide to run for president in 2027.
“We have learned our lesson. Never again will we vote for anyone outside our region. People have seen that this outsider (Ruto) came to divide us,” he remarked.
He added that the leaders being used are simply trying to stay on the President’s good side, noting, “They are singing to Ruto’s tune to please him.”
According to Waititu, Ruto chose his running mate based on ease of control, disregarding earlier promises made to him and former governors Kiraitu Murungi of Meru and Francis Kimemia of Nyandarua.
Waititu warned the undisclosed leaders that they could face the same fate when circumstances change, stressing the importance of regional unity among leaders.
“We need to have one candidate as a region in the next election. This candidate must understand the mandate and why they have our support,” he emphasized.
The former governor argued that if the region had elected a leader who prioritized their interests, locals would not be facing issues like ongoing demolitions, taxes, or bans.
