Govenor Lusaka advocates for aggressive marketing of Kenyan tea globally.

By Governors Press Unit.

In a move that aims to open up new markets and streamline the sales process of tea from counties, Governors Kenneth Lusaka (Bungoma), Stephen Sang(Nandi) Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri) and Principal secretary for Agriculture Paul Ronoh have held an engagement with the management of East Africa Tea trading Association (EATTA) at Mombasa auction.

The Governors advocated for a collaboration among tea industry stakeholders to boost tea value addition and reduce the level of unsold teas from smallholder tea factories managed by KTDA.

Governor Kenneth Lusaka emphasized the need for Kenya to aggressively market its own tea noting that despite Kenya being one of the world’s largest tea producers, the country has not fully exploited its potential in the global market.

Governor Sang underscored the need for value addition in the tea industry, urging tea factories to invest in the production of specialty teas, packaging innovations and branding that would enhance the appeal of Kenyan tea products.

The Governors later toured gold crown food (EPZ), an exporter and importer of tea in Shimanzi area of Mombasa County.
