Kenya’s Harambee Stars have made a significant leap in the latest FIFA rankings, moving up six places from 108th to 102nd globally. This improvement is largely attributed to the team’s performance in the ongoing qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Harambee Stars now hold 1208.96 points, a notable increase from the 1197.73 points recorded in the previous ranking. Earlier this month, they secured a crucial point with a goalless draw against The Warriors of Zimbabwe during a Group J AFCON qualifier on September 6. Just days later, on September 10, the team achieved a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Namibia, who were ranked 98th at the time, which played a pivotal role in boosting Kenya’s standing.
Globally, the top 10 teams remain unchanged, with Argentina holding the top spot, followed by France and Spain in second and third, respectively. England, Brazil, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy complete the top 10. Notably, no African team has made it into this elite group.
In Africa, Morocco leads the way, maintaining their 14th position globally while gaining 6.7 points. They are followed by Senegal at 21st, who dropped two places, and Egypt, which climbed five spots to 31st.
The rest of the top 10 African teams are:
Ivory Coast – 33rd
Tunisia – 36th
Nigeria – 39th
Algeria – 41st
Cameroon – 53rd
Mali – 54th
Congo DR – 58th (the only East African team in Africa’s top 10)
Kenya’s regional neighbors, Uganda and Tanzania, also saw improvements, each moving up five places to 90th and 110th, respectively.
With their next AFCON qualifier against Cameroon on the horizon, Kenya has a promising opportunity to break into the top 100 in the upcoming FIFA rankings.
