At Cardinal Otunga Girls’ High School Bungoma, a series of success stories is redefining the institution’s profile as a steadily rising centre of academic and holistic excellence in Western Kenya.
The school’s recent academic progress has become a clear indicator of this transformation. In the 2024 KCSE results, the institution recorded a mean score of 8.3641 (B-), improving from 7.16 in 2023. This performance was complemented by an impressive 95.63 percent university transition rate, with 394 out of 412 candidates qualifying for direct entry into university.
According to school leadership, the progress reflects strengthened internal systems, disciplined learning culture, and sustained investment in both teaching staff and learner support. Senior Principal Christine N. Sifuna has been credited for steering the institution through a period of structured transformation, focusing on discipline, academic monitoring, and staff capacity building to drive consistent improvement.

The school has also significantly expanded its teaching workforce, now comprising 97 TSC teachers and 12 BOM teachers, a move that has improved subject delivery, strengthened mentorship, and enhanced academic supervision across all levels.
Beyond academics, Cardinal Otunga Girls continues to record notable gains in discipline, mentorship, and co-curricular development. A structured learning environment supported by close student monitoring and mentorship programmes has helped create a calm and focused academic atmosphere.
The institution has also strengthened its presence in co-curricular activities, including sports and academic forums. Events such as the 3×3 basketball tournament and the 2026 English Contest and Symposium have further positioned the school as a balanced institution nurturing both academic and talent development.
Parents, education stakeholders, and community leaders have continued to express confidence in the school’s direction, noting its consistent upward trajectory and growing reputation for excellence in the region.
