The Bugisu cultural institution has expanded its leadership structure to formally include representatives from Kenya and the wider diaspora in a newly unveiled cabinet under the Umukuuka.
The appointments, announced under the leadership of Umukuuka wa Bugisu III Jude Mike Mudoma ,signal a deliberate move to integrate the Kenya chapter and global Bamasaaba community into the institution’s top decision-making structures.
Kenya Chapter Representation
Among the Kenyan nationals named to the cabinet are:

Rt. Hon. Dr. Wakoli Bifwoli Sylvester — Deputy Prime Minister (Kenya Chapter)

Rtd. Col. Tom Wanambisi — Special Envoy for Bamasaaba in Kenya

Phillip Wanyonyi Wekesa — Ambassador for Resources Mobilization and Development (Kenya Chapter)

Officials said the appointments underscore growing cross-border collaboration between Bamasaaba communities in Uganda and Kenya, as well as structured diaspora engagement within the cultural institution.

The Umukuuka institution based in Malukhu in Mbale city in the Bugisu region plays a central role in preserving Bamasaaba traditions while advancing development initiatives.
Leaders said the expanded structure is designed to strengthen unity across borders, enhance accountability and ensure that Bamasaaba communities in Kenya and the diaspora have a formal voice within the cultural establishment’s governance framework.
