Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday visited the Moi family home in Kabarak,Nakuru County.

Uhuru walked with KANU party leader Gideon Moi and laid wreaths at the graves of former President Daniel arap Moi and his wife, Lena Moi, in a quiet moment that evoked the intertwined political histories of Kenya’s two most influential families.

The visit came shortly after Kenyatta attended the 21st graduation ceremony of Kabarak University, an institution founded by the late Daniel arap Moi, who ruled Kenya for 24 years from 1978 to 2002.

Moi established the university as part of his broader legacy in education and public life.

The Kabarak home remains both a family residence and a national political landmark.

Kenyatta and Gideon Moi moved solemnly through the homestead, pausing at the gravesites in an atmosphere of reflection and remembrance.

Neither issued an official statement on the visit.

The encounter revived memories of the close — and at times complicated — relationship between their fathers, Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel arap Moi, who shaped Kenya’s post-independence trajectory.

Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya’s founding president, led the country from independence in 1963 until his death in 1978, laying the foundations of the modern state.

Moi, his long-serving vice president, succeeded him and went on to dominate Kenyan politics for more than two decades.

Uhuru Kenyatta, Jomo Kenyatta’s son, served two terms as president from 2013 to 2022 before stepping back from frontline politics.

Gideon Moi, the youngest son of Daniel arap Moi, is a former senator and currently leads the Kenya African National Union, the party that governed Kenya throughout his father’s presidency.

Daniel arap Moi died in 2020 at age 95, while his wife Lena Moi died in 2004.

Kenyatta’s appearance at the graduation ceremony and the subsequent visit to Kabarak drew widespread attention online, underscoring the enduring influence of Kenya’s founding political families.
