MBale, Uganda – Oct. 26, 2025
Sir Jude Mike Mudoma, Umukuuka III of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, has called on clan heads from Bukonde (Wanale) to focus on culture, heritage and development as a way of restoring the glory of Masabaland.
Speaking during a cultural meeting in Mbale, the Umukuuka said unity and respect for tradition are key to rebuilding the pride of the Bagisu community.
He urged clan leaders to blend heritage preservation with economic growth through initiatives such as agribusiness, tourism and youth empowerment.
“Our culture is our foundation,” Mudoma said. “When we revive it and link it to development, we strengthen our people socially and economically.”
The Bugisu leader’s appeal comes as the institution steps up efforts to promote peace, cultural revival and socio-economic transformation across the Mt. Elgon region.
He also encouraged the clans to uphold values of discipline, integrity and cooperation among members.
Sir Jude Mike Mudoma was officially gazetted as Umukuuka III in 2023 and has since championed the preservation of Bagisu heritage, including the famous Imbalu (circumcision) ceremonies.
