The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has rolled out a nationwide tender drive aimed at transforming Kenya’s countryside roads.
The move is expected to open up villages, boost trade and connect forgotten corners of the nation.
In a notice published this week, KeRRA invited qualified contractors to bid for projects across the country.
The tenders, available for download on the agency’s official website, cover upgrades and maintenance of rural access roads under multiple funding streams — including the Exchequer and the Road Maintenance Levy Fund.
“This is to bring to the attention of eligible and interested contractors that invitation notices for tenders funded under various votes shall be uploaded on the Authority’s website,” the agency said in a statement.
The digital tender system — part of government efforts to enhance transparency .
This allows contractors to submit bids online through the official e-procurement portal.
Analysts say the rollout could inject new life into Kenya’s rural economy, where poor road networks often limit access to markets, schools and hospitals.
With better roads, farm produce could reach towns faster and rural tourism might finally get the boost it deserves.
KeRRA’s new plan signals a broader shift toward modern, accountable infrastructure management to one where digital platforms, not paper notices on office walls, drive opportunity.
