Discipline and Dreams: Inside St. Claire’s Maragoli Girls’ Quest for KCSE Excellence

By Godfrey Wamalwa

At the heart of Vihiga County, nestled among rolling green hills, stands St. Claire’s Maragoli Girls High School,a school that has quietly but steadily built a reputation for discipline, determination and academic resilience.

This year, the institution has set its sights on an ambitious goal: achieving a mean score of 7.2 in the upcoming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

For Senior Principal Madam Jael Lusamukha, the target is more than just numbers on a results slip.

It is a reflection of the strides the school has made in recent years, thanks to teamwork, consistency, and a shared belief in the power of education.

“Every girl who walks through our gates deserves the opportunity to dream bigger and reach higher,” Madam Lusamukha explains with a confident smile. “Our mission is not just about grades, but about molding disciplined, confident, and capable young women.”

The culture of discipline at St. Claire’s has been cited as one of the school’s greatest strengths. Teachers describe the students as focused and self-driven, a quality that has allowed learning to flourish.

The Board of Management has also been instrumental, working hand-in-hand with staff to ensure resources and structures align with the school’s academic mission.

Inside the classrooms, one senses a quiet but determined energy. Students know that they are part of a collective journey, one fueled by cooperation between teachers, parents, and the wider community.

Afternoon revision sessions are alive with eager questions, while mentorship programs provide encouragement and guidance.

“We believe in the spirit of togetherness,” notes one teacher. “The girls see us not just as instructors, but as partners in their journey. That bond motivates them to aim higher.”

The 7.2 target may be bold, but for St. Claire’s Maragoli Girls, it is attainable. Each exam preparation session, each evening study hall, and each supportive conversation is another step toward that dream.

As Vihiga County looks ahead to the 2025 KCSE, all eyes will be on this institution, not simply to see whether it achieves its academic target, but to witness how far discipline, cooperation, and vision can carry a school determined to aim higher.
