From “Shareholders” to Suspects: Gachagua Says Kikuyus Have Gone from Voting Ruto In to Being Cast Out.

Gachagua addresses the media on Tuesday.

NAIROBI, Kenya (IP) — July 9, 2025.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says the Kikuyu community — once proudly dubbed “major shareholders” in President William Ruto’s government — have been demoted to national suspects, accused, profiled, and alienated by the very regime they helped install.

In a sharp, no-holds-barred speech on Tuesday, Gachagua accused the president of betraying Mt. Kenya voters and mobilizing the rest of the country to hate the Kikuyus, despite their overwhelming support in the 2022 elections.

“We gave him votes, carried him to State House, sang for him, even danced barefoot… and now we are terrorists?” Gachagua quipped.

“He calls us entitled. No, we’re just stunned — we didn’t expect betrayal this fast.”
Ballot, Not Bullets.

Calling on Kenyans — especially the youth — to register as voters, Gachagua declared that the Ruto administration would not be removed by coups or conspiracies, but through the ballot in 2027.

“Don’t fear. Just register. And when the time comes, return the favor,” he said with a smile.
“They weaponized the law, we’ll weaponize the vote.”

Stop Playing Victim, Mr. President.

Gachagua accused the president of using the Terrorism Act as a blanket tool to arrest, abduct, and intimidate anyone who questions the government — especially if they have a Gikuyu name or own a thriving business.

“Now even saying the truth is a crime. If you’re from Mt. Kenya, it’s worse — you must be plotting something. Suddenly, loving your country is suspicious,” he said.
“Moi had communists. Ruto has Kikuyus.”

From Praise Songs to Panic Rooms.

The deputy president reminded Ruto of the Kikuyu community’s loyalty at the ballot, suggesting that sidelining them now is not just cruel — it’s ungrateful.

“You can’t bite the hand that voted for you and expect it to clap. We see the script: praise them to win, punish them to rule,” he said.

Ready for Arrest — Not Regret
Amid swirling rumors of an impending arrest, Gachagua said he’s prepared for the worst — but won’t apologize for telling the truth.

“Let them come. Let them take me. But I’ll go knowing I stood up when it mattered. And I’ll walk into that cell knowing 2027 is coming,” he said, defiant.

Ends.
