BUNGOMA, Kenya .
Sirisia MP John Waluke has endorsed Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi for Bungoma governor in 2027, calling on fellow leaders to back a new chapter of leadership in the county.
Waluke accused previous regimes of mismanaging Bungoma’s resources, saying the time had come to abandon what he called “recycled leadership.”
“Bungoma needs a visionary leader with a clean record and tested experience. That person is Tim Wanyonyi,” Waluke said.
Wanyonyi, a native of Bungoma, is serving his third term as Westlands MP. He is widely respected for his development record in Nairobi, including expanded bursaries, road infrastructure, and youth empowerment programs.
Waluke said eight of Bungoma’s 10 MPs are behind Wanyonyi. The exception is Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, who has not commented on his 2027 intentions despite earlier interest.
Also eyeing a return is former governor Wycliffe Wangamati, but Waluke dismissed his bid. “We need fresh thinking, not people who were voted out for underperformance,” he said.
Waluke also announced he has summoned all 64 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to a meeting at Wanyonyi’s home this Thursday.
“Any MCA who fails to attend should count himself as an enemy of the people of Bungoma,” Waluke warned.
Wanyonyi has not officially declared his candidacy, but mounting support suggests he may enter the race with strong political backing.
Ends.
