National Assembly Speaker Dr. Moses Wetang’ula has lauded Claire Juma’s inspiring journey from working as a security guard to earning a degree in education from Kibabii University, calling it a testament to determination and hard work.
Speaking on Tuesday after Juma visited his office with her area MP, Hon. John Chikati, Wetang’ula said her story demonstrates the transformative power of education.
He noted that education serves as the ultimate equalizer, enabling individuals to redefine their futures regardless of their starting points.
“Claire has redefined her future with a recognized and respectable qualification,” Wetang’ula said, adding that her journey exemplifies the importance of taking on humble jobs with dedication and clear goals.
The Speaker highlighted other inspiring examples of Kenyans who have overcome obstacles to achieve academic and professional success.
He cited Lucy Njeri, a former tea picker in Kericho who earned a scholarship and later graduated with a degree in agricultural economics, and Peter Mwangi, who worked as a boda boda rider to fund his engineering studies and is now a practicing civil engineer.
“These stories remind us that determination and resilience can turn even the most challenging situations into opportunities for growth,” Wetang’ula said.
He described Juma’s story as a beacon of hope for those facing challenges in accessing education, emphasizing that success often begins with small, consistent efforts supported by determination and focus.
Congratulating Juma on her achievement, Wetang’ula expressed confidence in her ability to thrive in the job market, citing her resilience as a key attribute that will distinguish her from others.
