BUNGOMA, Kenya
Speaker of the National Assembly,Dr Moses Wetangula, spearheaded a fundraising drive to support the families of 16 people who perished in a road accident at Malaha in Webuye East Constituency, Bungoma County.
The initiative raised a total of Sh13 million to assist with funeral expenses and hospital bills for the victims.
During a fundraiser held at Sipala Secondary School, Wetangula presented Sh7.5 million contributed by President H.E. Dr. William Ruto, alongside his personal donation of Sh1 million.
Additional contributions came from Members of Parliament and other local leaders who attended in solidarity with the bereaved families.
A joint interdenominational memorial service for the victims is scheduled for Monday in Webuye, before they are laid to rest in their respective homes.
Wetangula assured the bereaved families that he and his colleagues would continue to support them during this difficult period, as they come to terms with the tragic loss of their loved ones.
