BUNGOMA, Kenya
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has pledged Kshs. 50 million toward the establishment of a talent and culture centre in Bungoma town, marking a major boost for youth in the creative arts sector.
Wetang’ula made the commitment during the finale of the inaugural Waks Talanta Expo 2025, held at Bungoma High School and sponsored by Senate Chief Whip David Wakoli.
He said the facility would be developed in collaboration with the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy and the Bungoma County government.
The Speaker praised the three-day expo for showcasing youthful brilliance through music, dance, rap, comedy, poetry and spoken word, describing the performances as captivating and inspiring.
“When sufficiently exposed and nurtured through platforms such as this, talent can open doors, create jobs, promote peace and help build a strong and cohesive society,” Wetang’ula said, adding that the event reaffirmed his belief that Kenyan youth possess limitless potential.
He congratulated winners of the competition and applauded Wakoli for sponsoring what he termed a bold initiative that has unearthed raw and hidden talent in Bungoma.
Wetang’ula also pledged personal financial support for the 2026 Bungoma Talent Expo.
In a statement, Wakoli lauded Bungoma influencers and content creators for standing with young artists and using their platforms to amplify emerging talent.
“During the first edition of the Waks Talanta Expo 2025, Bungoma influencers truly showed leadership by standing shoulder to shoulder with our young talented artists,” Wakoli said. “Your presence, ideas, marketing power and unwavering support elevated this platform to another level.”
The senator assured creatives of his continued backing, saying he would support them “fully and without hesitation” whenever needed, and expressed optimism that the expo would grow into a flagship platform for youth empowerment and job creation in Bungoma County.
