The long, tiring trips between Bungoma and Nairobi could soon be history! 🚙💨
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has picked the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and NSSF to build and operate the 175km Nairobi–Nakuru–Mau Summit Expressway, expected to open by 2028 and will at last extend all the way to Malaba.
Motorists will pay Sh8 per kilometer, but the current A8 and the Nairobi–Maai Mahiu–Naivasha roads will remain free alternatives — meaning you can still travel at no cost if you don’t mind a bit of traffic.
“For years, Western Kenya has lagged behind because of poor road connectivity,” said Phillip Wanyonyi Wekesa, Director of the Center for Human Rights Watch in Bungoma.
“This road will cut costs for traders, farmers, and transporters — putting more money into local hands.”
Bishop Daniel Muyelele of House of Power Ministries added:
“Better roads don’t just move vehicles — they connect communities.”
The Sh180 billion expressway will feature six lanes, modern safety systems, lighting and a 4.5km viaduct through Nakuru to eliminate gridlock. 🚦
Once complete, the highway is expected to slash travel time by hours and open up new trade, tourism and investment opportunities also for Eldoret,Bungoma and the entire Western region. 🌾📦🏞️
