A luxury matatu owned by George Ruto, the younger son of President William Ruto, was involved in an accident in Eldoret on Sunday, police confirmed.

The matatu, part of a high-end fleet that has become popular on the Eldoret–Nairobi route, collided with a private vehicle near the Kipkaren area.

Witnesses said the crash caused panic among passengers, though no fatalities were immediately reported.

Several passengers sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with preliminary reports pointing to speeding and slippery road conditions following overnight rains.

The incident drew large crowds as news spread that the vehicle was linked to the president’s son George Ruto, known for his growing investment in luxury public transport was not in the vehicle at the time.

Police have urged motorists to exercise caution especially on the busy Eldoret–Webuye highway where accidents are frequent.
