MOMBASA, Kenya (IP).

National Assembly Speaker Dr. Moses Wetang’ula and Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki over the weekend led a high-profile delegation in Mombasa County, calling on residents to unite behind President William Ruto’s administration and embrace government reforms, including the Social Health Authority (SHA) program.

Speaking in Jomvu constituency, Dr. Wetang’ula praised the coastal region for its strong uptake of SHA registration, describing it as a key milestone in the country’s push toward universal healthcare.

“Mombasa is leading in SHA registration,” he said. “This is our time to reclaim Mombasa’s glory—not just as a top tourist destination, but also as the home of the Port that remains the heartbeat of our nation’s economy.”

He commended area MP Bady Twalib and Woman Representative Zamzam Mohammed for their commitment to public service, referencing a Harambee held six years ago that catalyzed community projects under the NG-CDF fund.

“Right here in Jomvu, the future is looking brighter as our women and youth begin to tap into meaningful economic growth,” he said.

Dr. Wetang’ula also urged residents to reject divisive politics and misinformation being spread by opposition leaders.

“Kenya has moved forward. No tribe is big or small—we are one people,” he said.
“Those trying to divide this country are mistaken—we’ve come too far.”

Deputy President Prof. Kindiki, in his remarks, emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive development and regional equity, assuring coastal residents that the days of marginalization were over.

“No region will be left behind. We are determined to make the Coast a key pillar in our national transformation agenda,” he said.
He reaffirmed the administration’s respect for constitutional freedoms, including the right to protest, but cautioned that such rights must be exercised peacefully and within the law.

“We will not interfere with citizens’ right to express themselves,” said Prof. Kindiki,“But we will not allow criminals to hijack peaceful protests to loot, burn or injure Kenyans.”

He added that President Ruto’s administration will continue focusing on economic empowerment, particularly for the youth, and strengthening national security to ensure nationwide stability.

Other leaders present included Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro, and Members of Parliament from across the country.

Dr. Wetang’ula concluded by calling on coastal leaders to unite across party lines and support the President’s bottom-up economic transformation agenda.

“Let’s move forward together. Let’s build a united Kenya—where no tribe is greater or lesser, and every voice counts.”

The SHA program is a key pillar of President Ruto’s universal health coverage strategy.

Coastal counties, especially Mombasa, have led in registration, positioning the region as a frontrunner in the country’s social protection reforms.

Ends.
