BUNGOMA.

Bungoma Senator David Wakoli has strongly condemned the destruction of property during the June 25 protests, blaming the chaos on criminal groups who hijacked peaceful demonstrations to loot and vandalize.

“What began as a lawful expression of democratic rights was turned into chaos by hired goons whose only mission was to loot, vandalize, and destroy livelihoods,” Wakoli said Tuesday.

Among the worst-hit sites were the Bungoma Governor’s office and Jadelica Hotel. Roadside stalls, shops, and private businesses were also damaged as violence spread across Bungoma town.

“I strongly condemn, in the firmest terms, the destruction of property witnessed in Bungoma after criminal elements hiding behind peaceful protests hijacked the demonstrations,” he said.

Wakoli accused unnamed political actors of funding and manipulating youth for selfish gain. “Those financing and manipulating our youths to fight selfish political battles will be exposed and held accountable. Enough is enough,” he said.

He urged security agencies to act swiftly. “I call on security agencies to act decisively, arrest the perpetrators, and dismantle the networks behind this criminality.”

“Bungoma is a county of peace and unity — we will not allow a few reckless individuals to misuse our youth and destabilize our home,” he said. “No grievance — however genuine — justifies violence, theft, or the destruction of property. We must defend peace at all costs.”

Ends.
