BUNGOMA, Kenya .

Farouk Teigut Kibet, President William Ruto’s longtime personal aide, is making bold moves on the political front through grassroots philanthropy and high-level alliances in Western Kenya.

Kibet’s rising profile could boost Kenya Kwanza’s support in a region that largely backed the opposition in 2022—and set him up for a 2027 parliamentary bid in Turbo.

Building Political Muscle.

Two weeks ago, Kibet joined National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula in Sirisia for a women’s group fundraiser. He’s set to reunite with Wetang’ula, Governor Ken Lusaka, CS Wycliffe Oparanya, and Sirisia MP John Waluke in Kabuchai,Wetang’ulas bedrock and Lukusi in Webuye East on Friday June 27.(tomorrow)

The event, backed by the Western Kenya Parliamentary Caucus, is part of a wider campaign to consolidate the Luhya vote ahead of 2027.

Eyes on Turbo
In Uasin Gishu, Kibet has openly criticized Turbo MP Janet Sitienei and is increasingly seen as her likely challenger. Social media posters reading “Farouk Kibet 2027: Turbo for Development” have begun circulating.

He’s been a regular at community fundraisers and church events in the region, distributing food, school fees, and transport donations.

Philanthropy as Politics
Kibet’s generosity has earned him admiration, especially among women’s groups and church leaders.

In Sirisia, Kimilili,Navakholo and Nambale his team raised millions for widows and school projects. Kabuchai and Lukusi in Webuye East are expected to see a similar turnout.

Observers say his alliance with Wetang’ula and Oparanya gives his campaign weight and regional legitimacy.

‘Tawe’ Movement Rising
But not all are convinced. Governor George Natembeya’s “Tawe” movement is gaining ground with a younger, anti-elite base. “Tawe” rejects kingpin politics and pushes economic empowerment without gatekeepers.

Natembeya’s rallies across Kakamega, Bungoma, and Vihiga have attracted thousands. Many youths say they want action—not handouts.

Ruto’s Gamble
Kibet’s campaign may help Ruto regain traction in Western Kenya. His close ties with Luhya leaders give him an edge. But without programs focused on youth and jobs, the movement risks falling behind Natembeya’s momentum.

Analysts say Kibet’s challenge is converting goodwill into policy—and votes.
