Governor Lusaka Champions Creative Economy Revival in Bungoma

By Swaleh
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has taken a bold step toward transforming the county’s creative economy by partnering with the Kenya Film Commission in a new initiative designed to nurture local talent and convert it into sustainable economic opportunity.

In a strategic meeting held at the Bungoma County headquarters, Governor Lusaka and Kenya Film Commission Chairperson Sudi Wandabusi convened with musicians, content creators, and cultural stakeholders to craft a framework for developing the region’s artistic ecosystem.

Describing the engagement as a milestone in Bungoma’s development agenda, Governor Lusaka underscored the county’s renewed focus on the arts as a serious contributor to economic growth.

“This meeting signals a renewed commitment to integrating the creative economy into our broader development agenda,” he said. “We are determined to transform talent into opportunity.”

Lusaka announced that the existing County Youth and Sports Policy will be expanded to include structured support for film, music, and other cultural ventures. The new policy direction aims to open doors for young creatives and foster entrepreneurship in the arts.

Sudi Wandabusi echoed the governor’s sentiments, noting the importance of institutional backing in unlocking Kenya’s vast creative potential.

“Creativity must be recognized as a serious contributor to the economy. Our role is to unlock that potential and ensure our artists can thrive,” he said.

The partnership between Bungoma County and the Kenya Film Commission is expected to lead to the establishment of creative hubs, training programs, and avenues for monetizing digital content. It also signals a commitment to empowering grassroots talent and positioning Bungoma as a cultural force within Kenya’s growing creative economy.

As the county shifts gears toward cultural and artistic empowerment, Lusaka reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to make talent a central pillar of Bungoma’s transformation.

“We are laying the foundation for a future where creative expression is not only celebrated but also rewarded,” he added.
